How to Hydrate your Body without the Waterlogged Feeling

Updated: Aug 27, 2022

How do you feel when you get "waterlogged"? If you are like me, you do not feel good.

This "waterlogged" feeling happens because of the water's surface tension. The latter allows water to resist an external force due to the cohesive nature of its molecules. In other words, water molecules want to cling to each other. When you drink water with a surface tension higher than your cells, you get waterlogged. Water cannot permeate through the cell walls to hydrate. That means it sits in your stomach until the body restructures or expels it.

Your cells' membranes have a surface tension of 46 dynes. Tap and bottled water have a surface tension of 72 dynes. This means you do not hydrate your cells when drinking these waters. Thus, you get "waterlogged". Since our body's are up to 60% percent water, hydration is important. We should give it the most higher quality water available. For starters, choose water with low surface tension.

Where can you find such water? Search for "miracle waters" sites and you will find:

In 1950, a group of scientists started researching these "miracle water" sites. They discovered that the water from these sites were different. The water:

  • Contained active hydrogen, one of the most powerful antioxidants

  • Had smaller clusters of water molecules due to its low surface tension

  • High alkaline pH to neutralize acids and regulate pH levels

How can you change the surface tension of water? You can add a surfactant, such as detergent or soap. But I am sure you do not want to drink that. You can purify the water to remove the organic compounds in water, such as calcium and magnesium. The latter two minerals are essential for your health. You can heat up the water to create bubbles that break the surface tension. A little better option but not practical. You can electrify the water to reduce the surface tension. Unsafe unless you use a water ionizer.

Water ionizers reduce surface tension of water via the process of electrolysis. During this process, water goes through a filter to remove contaminants and sediment. Then water goes though platinum-coated titanium plates. With an electric charge at the end of each plate, hydrogen and hydroxide ions separate. Hydrogen ions are acidic while hydroxide ions are alkaline. A membrane separates these two types of waters and dispense via different hoses.

A water ionizer replicates the water found in "miracle waters" sites. These machines produce alkaline ionized water or electrolyzed-reduced water. This water is:

  • Rich in antioxidants due to a high content of active hydrogen and minerals

  • High in pH to flush out acidic waste and maintain blood pH within normal range

  • Smaller clusters of water molecules due to a low surface tension like that of our cell membranes

With this in mind, choose water that hydrates you. If you cannot find water that hydrates you, add a supplement. Your body will appreciate it.
